Colchagua Valley

DESCRIPTION

This valley was declared by magazine Wine Spectator as the best valley in the world for wine production. It is known for its red wines. You will visit two wineries, each one with its special characteristics. You will begin with Montes winery, located in Colchagua valley, the “Finca of Apalta” that is located in the center of the known and renowned valley. In this area the annual accumulation of rain is 750 mm, the distance from the ocean is 65 km (40 miles), and the influence of the ocean is considered soft to moderate.

This is ideal for grape growing. Aurelio Montes wine maker of Montes winery maintains that 80% of a good wine depends on the grapes and just 20% in the cellar. His personal philosophy is that gravity moves the grapes, must and the new wine.

Second winery to be visited will be Casa Lapostolle, the desingn of its cellar is unique, has six levels and the counsel of one of the most prestigious wine makers of the world: Michel Rolland. This winery is now the property of Marnier Lapostolle family. Their philosopy is to create world class wines based on French expertise and the magnificent Chilean wine growing terroir.

The cellar facade has 24 chilean oak beams, an architectural feature representing the months that the vinification process takes. Finally, at lunch time you will be driven to the north, to Rengo, to lunch in a restaurant of the area.
